Privacy Policy

This page explains what information the College Sleep Score collects, why, and what happens to it. We've written it in plain English instead of legalese — if anything here is unclear, email privacy@collegesleepscore.org and we'll answer.

Who runs this. The College Sleep Score is operated by The College Sleep Score LLC, an Arizona limited liability company (ACC Business ID 25067659, 4539 N 22nd St, Suite N, Phoenix, AZ 85016, formed May 21, 2026). The company was founded by a group of parents with college-aged children who have struggled to get quality sleep at school. The goal of the College Sleep Score is to help educate students on what really affects their sleep and how they can sleep better (and get more out of college at the same time).

What we collect

When you take the College Sleep Score, we collect:

Your answers to the 14 assessment questions — sleep patterns, caffeine and alcohol use, screen habits, stress, eating patterns, and the other topics covered.
Demographic information you provide at the start of the assessment — age, gender, year in school, major, and the name of your school.
Your calculated results — your score (0–100), the band it falls into (Excellent, Good, Fair, Poor, or Very Poor), and derived measures like estimated weekday sleep hours and social jet lag.
Your first name, last name, and email address, but only if you choose to provide them at the end. These fields are optional. You will see your full score whether or not you provide them.
Your marketing preference — whether you opted in to receive our monthly college sleep report. You can change this at any time using the unsubscribe link in any email we send.
A submission timestamp (the date and time you completed the assessment).

We do not collect:

Your IP address as a stored record (we use IP addresses momentarily to prevent abuse, then discard them)
Your precise location
Any payment information (we don\u2019t accept payments)
Any data from outside the assessment itself

Why we collect it

Two reasons, both honest:

To give you your results. Your answers feed into the score you see and the personalized feedback after each question.
To build a research dataset. Aggregated and anonymized responses help us improve the assessment over time and develop a clearer picture of college student sleep. We may publish summary statistics from this dataset (for example, "the average social jet lag across College Sleep Score takers was 2.1 hours") but we will never publish anything that could identify an individual.

If you provide your email, we also use it to send you sleep-related content and updates about products we develop. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email we send.

Who we share it with

We use a small number of trusted third-party services to operate the assessment. They have access to the minimum data needed to do their job:

Supabase — our database provider. Stores your responses securely.
Vercel — our hosting provider. Serves the website you're reading right now.
Klaviyo — our email service. Receives your email address and a summary of your results (your score, band, and key demographics) if you provide an email, so we can send you relevant follow-up content.
ImprovMX — our email forwarding service. Routes mail sent to our addresses (like the one in this policy) to a personal inbox.

We do not sell your data. We do not share it with advertisers. We do not allow other companies to use it for their marketing.

How long we keep it

We keep response data indefinitely as part of the research dataset, with personally identifying details (your email) separated where possible. If you want your data deleted, see the section below.

Your rights

You can do any of the following at any time by emailing privacy@collegesleepscore.org:

Ask what we have about you. We'll send you a copy of your response data within 30 days.
Ask us to delete your data. We'll remove your email and any identifying information within 30 days. Your anonymized response data may remain in the research dataset.
Ask us to correct something. If something we have is wrong, we'll fix it.
Unsubscribe from emails. Use the unsubscribe link in any email, or email us directly.

If you're a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), including the right to know what categories of personal information we collect, the right to delete personal information, and the right to opt out of any "sale" of personal information (we don't sell data, but you have the right to confirm that). Email us to exercise any of these rights.

Children's privacy

The College Sleep Score is intended for college students and adults. It is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has submitted data through the assessment, please contact privacy@collegesleepscore.org and we will delete it promptly.

Security

We take reasonable steps to protect the information you provide — encryption in transit (the website runs on HTTPS), encryption at rest (the database encrypts data on disk), and limited access to the data inside the team operating the assessment. That said, no system is perfectly secure. If we learn of a breach affecting your data, we will notify you and take steps to limit harm.

Changes to this policy

If we change anything material in this policy, we\u2019ll update the effective date at the top of this page and, if the change is significant, we\u2019ll notify users by email where we have one on file.
